Injuries Reshuffled the Whole Slate. Here's Who Wins.

Six games, three matchups, and a wave of minute bumps that the model caught before the lineups did. Tonight's edge is in knowing who absorbed the load.

00 · THE SLATE

Three games. First tip at 1:00 PM ET. Sixty-six players in the pool. That's a small slate by any measure, and small slates have a way of punishing you for the wrong anchors and rewarding you handsomely when you get the value right.

Tonight's matchups: LA vs. DAL, CHI vs. ATL, and PHX vs. CON. Three genuinely interesting games, and the model sees something specific threading through all of them — every single player worth featuring tonight is carrying bumped minutes. Every one. That's not a coincidence. Injury news hit this slate hard, and the players who absorb those minutes are where tonight's lineups get built or broken.

The model blends exponentially weighted per-minute rates (halflife 10 games) with opponent-defense and pace context — both shrunk toward the mean to avoid overclaiming — and it's been beating the naive baselines out of sample. The floor and ceiling numbers you'll see are each player's own p10/p90 volatility range, covering 78% of outcomes in walk-forward testing. Use them honestly: the floor is real, and so is the ceiling.

On a three-game slate, correlation is your friend. Stack your game, know your value, and understand why the injury edge matters tonight more than usual.

01 · THE ANCHORS

The model's top six projections for tonight — the players you build around. Every one of them is carrying bumped minutes because an injury redistributed playing time in their favor. That's not spin; it's the single most important thing to understand about this slate.

Angel Reese ↑ATL v CHI$11.8K3341.051.23.47
Alyssa Thomas ↑PHX v CON$11.6K3640.152.83.46

Nneka Ogwumike leads the projections at 43.6 fantasy points on 36 minutes at $11,400. Her floor of 32.4 is the kind of basement that lets you sleep. Ceiling touches 57. That's your safest anchor on the night.

Jessica Shepard at $11,700 is the highest-variance stud on the board — floor of 25.7 is genuinely wide, but a ceiling of 59.8 is the highest on the slate. If you're building for a tournament, that spread is the conversation. In cash, Ogwumike's tighter distribution is the more comfortable ride.

Paige Bueckers at $11,500 projects 42.5 with a 33-point floor and a 55.1 ceiling. She's the most consistent of the three DAL plays at the stud tier — the floor is firm and the upside is real. For a small slate where you're likely touching DAL multiple times, she's the connector.

Kamilla Cardoso at $9,500 is the headline of the whole card — more on her in the value section, because she belongs in both conversations. Angel Reese at $11,800 is the priciest stud and projects 41 flat with a tight floor of 32.3, which tells you the model believes in the floor but the salary leaves less room. Alyssa Thomas at $11,600 rounds out the tier at 40.1 projected, with a wide range (27.3 floor, 52.8 ceiling) that makes her more of a GPP play than a cash anchor.

02 · THE VALUE

On a three-game slate, value isn't filler — it's what determines whether your anchors can coexist. The model surfaces six plays here worth your attention, and the points-per-$1K efficiency at the top of this list is genuinely striking.

Brionna Jones ↑ATL v CHI$6.4K2427.637.64.31
Aicha Coulibaly ↑CHI v ATL$3.0K1512.921.14.30

Start with Cardoso, because she earns the top of both lists. At $9,500 she projects 42 fantasy points — that's a 4.42 value score, best among the studs and nearly the best on the entire slate. She's getting 35-plus minutes because an injury bumped her load, her floor is almost 31, and her ceiling is 52.7. She's not a value play in the traditional sense; she's a stud-tier projection at a mid-tier price. That combination doesn't come around often.

Brionna Jones at $6,400 is the mid-range anchor that ties lineups together — 27.6 projected, floor of 17.6, ceiling of 37.6. Tightest range in the value tier. She's the connective tissue play if you need to free up salary for the Shepard-Bueckers pairing in DAL.

The three DAL value plays — Maddy Siegrist ($3,200, 14.3 projected), Sug Sutton ($3,000, 13.2 projected), and Aziaha James ($3,400, 14.9 projected) — are each in the $3K range and each carrying bumped minutes. Their floors are honest (as low as 1.1 for James), so don't treat these as set-and-forget. But the ceilings range from 24.7 to 28.6, and at those salaries you're not paying for the floor anyway. In GPP construction on a small slate, one or two of these frees enough salary to double up at the stud tier.

Aicha Coulibaly at $3,000 out of CHI rounds out the tier — 12.9 projected, ceiling 21.1. Same story: honest floor (4.0), real upside for the price, and the minutes are there because an injury opened the door.

03 · THE INJURY EDGE

This is the model's signature feature, and tonight it's not a footnote — it's the entire slate. Every player in the injury-edge tier is there because an injury to a teammate redistributed minutes in their favor. The model ingests that, recalculates their per-minute rates against their opponent's defense and pace, and projects accordingly. That process is the live news edge.

Angel Reese ↑ATL v CHI$11.8K3341.051.23.47
Alyssa Thomas ↑PHX v CON$11.6K3640.152.83.46

What makes tonight unusual is the scale of it. All six players in this section are also the six studs. That tells you something: the injury news didn't create a couple of sneaky mid-tier plays to exploit. It restructured the load distribution at the top of the slate entirely. Ogwumike, Shepard, and Bueckers in the LA-DAL game. Cardoso and Reese in the CHI-ATL game. Thomas in the PHX-CON game. Every game on the slate, the minutes picture shifted.

The honest caveat: Shepard's floor of 25.7 is the widest gap between floor and projection in this group. When minutes get redistributed by injury, the actual in-game role can fluctuate as coaches adjust. The model accounts for this by shrinking the opponent-defense and pace adjustments toward the mean — it's not assuming the best case. But Shepard's range is worth flagging for cash lineups. Thomas carries the same note: a 27.3 floor against a 40.1 projection is a meaningful gap. GPP territory for both.

Ogwumike and Cardoso have the tightest floors relative to their projections. If you're in a cash game tonight, those two are your injury-edge anchors. If you're tournament-building, Shepard's 59.8 ceiling is the number that wins a slate.

04 · THE BUILD

Three games means correlation is both a tool and a risk. Stack too hard into one game and you're riding one outcome. Ignore correlation entirely and you're leaving GPP equity on the table. Here's how to think about tonight's construction.

The LA-DAL Game Stack

This is the richest single-game environment on the slate. Ogwumike and Bueckers are the two cleanest anchors — Ogwumike for the floor, Bueckers for the consistency. Shepard pairs with either for GPP upside given her 59.8 ceiling, but her wider floor means you probably want one of the other two as your cash anchor rather than stacking all three. In the value tier, Siegrist, Sutton, and James are cheap enough that pairing one with your LA-DAL studs doesn't compromise the rest of your lineup. Sutton at $3,000 with nearly 20 projected minutes is the most stable of the three at the price.

The CHI-ATL Stack

Cardoso and Reese are on opposite sides of this game, which makes them a natural two-man GPP stack — you're covered whether the game tilts toward CHI or ATL. Brionna Jones at $6,400 adds ATL exposure without breaking the bank. In cash, Cardoso alone (or Cardoso plus Jones) is a cleaner construction given Reese's higher salary limiting flexibility.

The PHX-CON Game

Thomas is the only stud-tier play here, and her wider floor makes her a GPP add rather than a cash pillar. On a three-game slate you're probably touching the LA-DAL and CHI-ATL games more heavily; Thomas is the satellite exposure that differentiates a GPP lineup from the field.

The Cash Core

Ogwumike + Cardoso + Jones + Bueckers + Sutton (or Coulibaly). That's a lineup built on floors, with enough salary flexibility to be functional. The injury edge is baked into every player on that list.

The GPP Build

Shepard + Bueckers + Cardoso + Reese + Siegrist or James. You're stacking both sides of the two best games, taking Shepard's ceiling as the tournament-winning scenario, and using the cheap DAL value plays to fund the whole thing. Shepard's 59.8 ceiling is the highest on the slate — that number matters in GPP construction.

05 · THE BOTTOM LINE

Tonight is a three-game slate where injury news didn't just create one or two opportunistic plays — it restructured the minutes picture across every game. The model caught that redistribution, ran it through exponentially weighted per-minute rates and opponent context, and it's projecting at a walk-forward validated MAE of 7.03 against a naive baseline of 7.11; not a dramatic gap, but a consistent one out of sample. The floor and ceiling numbers are each player's own volatility, covering 78% of outcomes in testing — which is to say, the floor is real and worth respecting. Ogwumike and Cardoso are the two cleanest anchors for cash: Ogwumike at 43.6 projected with a 32.4 floor, Cardoso at 42.0 projected with a 30.9 floor, and Cardoso doing it at $9,500 which is the best value score among the studs. For tournament construction, Shepard's 59.8 ceiling is the number that wins the slate — the wide floor is the price of admission, and that's a price worth paying in GPP. Small slate, big injury footprint, and a clear hierarchy. Build accordingly.
