Two Totals Stand Out on a 15-Game Friday
The moneyline board is quiet tonight, but two totals cleared our bar by a wide margin — and a 15-game slate gives DFS plenty of room to work with. Here's where the model sees real separation.

THE READ
Friday's slate runs 15 games deep, which is the kind of volume where the model earns its keep — not by finding a side on every game, but by locating the handful of spots where the market is meaningfully off. Tonight, the moneyline board is essentially flat; no side cleared our five-point threshold. The totals board is a different story.
The biggest signal is LAD @ MIA. The market has that game at 7.5 runs. Our model lands at 9.8 — a 2.3-run gap, and a 13-point edge toward the over. That's not a rounding error. It's the kind of divergence that warrants attention even before you factor in that Loan Depot Park's roof is listed as likely open tonight with a modest outward breeze. The second edge, TEX @ ARI, runs the other direction: market at 9, model at 8.7, a lean toward the under worth tracking.
On the DFS side, the Seattle stack against OAK in warm conditions with wind blowing out is the most interesting environment on the board. We'll get into the specifics below.
All hitters are still projected — lineups haven't posted yet. Keep an eye on confirmations before lock.
MODEL vs MARKET
No moneyline edge cleared our five-point bar tonight. The totals board, though, produced two readings worth tracking.
LAD @ MIA — Over 7.5 (lean): the model projects 9.8 total runs, implying a 63% over probability. That's a 13-point edge over the posted line. The gap is large enough that even a conservative adjustment for lineup uncertainty leaves the over comfortably in range.
TEX @ ARI — Under 9 (lean): the model projects 8.7 total runs, with a 38.2% over probability — an 11.8-point edge toward the under. The market is pricing this as a relatively high-scoring game; the model disagrees by nearly a full run.
Both are tracked edges, not official plays. No money is implied on either. The card section below covers what actually made the cut.
THE CARD
The card is dark tonight. Nothing cleared the minimum threshold to qualify as an official play — no moneyline side, no total, nothing staked.
The two totals above are tracked on the board as leans. They're real edges and worth watching for line movement, but they didn't cross the bar we require before committing units. That's the right call, not a gap to apologize for. A 15-game slate full of projected lineups and one roof listed as "likely open" carries real uncertainty. Sitting out the official plays when the conviction isn't there is how the budget stays healthy through September.
The leans are logged. If either total moves and the edge widens, we'll note it.
DFS CORE
All 196 hitters are still projected — no confirmed lineups yet as of publication. Treat every player below as a projection, and build with confirmed availability in mind closer to lock.
The value tier is anchored by three players projecting at 2.7x value per $1,000: Christian Koss ($2,500, SS, SF) against Robbie Ray, Austin Wells ($2,400, C, NYY) against Nolan McLean, and Luis Rengifo ($2,000, LF, SD) against Anthony Molina. Koss and Wells both carry floors above 1.0, which is notable at minimum salary — you're getting ceiling access without the complete-bust risk that usually comes with the cheapest options. Rengifo's floor is zero, so he's more of a GPP piece at the minimum price.
At the premium end, William Contreras projects for 8.7 points with a 1.9 floor and 17.9 ceiling — the steadiest cash-game catcher on the board. Shohei Ohtani against Ryan Gusto in a game our model projects at 9.8 total runs is the obvious GPP anchor if you want LAD exposure.
| Hitter | Team | Pos | Salary | Proj | Ceil |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Christian Koss * | SF | SS | $2.5K | 6.8 | 15.1 |
| Austin Wells * | NYY | C | $2.4K | 6.4 | 15.2 |
| Luis Rengifo * | SD | LF | $2.0K | 5.3 | 12.3 |
| Colton Cowser * | BAL | CF | $2.5K | 6.5 | 16.2 |
| Brock Rodden * | SEA | SS | $2.7K | 6.8 | 15.1 |
| Drew Cavanaugh * | SF | C | $2.2K | 5.4 | 13.3 |
| Nathan Lukes * | TOR | RF | $2.9K | 6.9 | 15.1 |
| Pitcher | Team | Salary | Proj | xK | Win% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| George Kirby | SEA | $8.2K | 24.5 | 10.0 | 54% |
| Chris Sale | ATL | $11.0K | 22.0 | 8.0 | 59% |
| Parker Messick | CLE | $10.2K | 18.3 | 6.6 | 55% |
| Tyler Glasnow | LAD | $10.2K | 18.2 | 6.7 | 59% |
On the pitching side, George Kirby leads the projected strikeout total at 10 with 5.7 expected innings at only $8,200 — the clearest value arm. Chris Sale at $11,000 projects 8 strikeouts over 6.5 innings with a 58.9% win probability if you need a high-floor SP1.
THE STACK
The optimizer's featured build is MIL 4 + LAD 3, projecting 105.4 points on a $50,000 salary with a 105.9 cash-point estimate. Both stacks make sense on their own merits, and pairing them gives you access to two of the three highest-ceiling environments on the slate.
| Stack | Bats | Proj pts | Ceiling | Salary | Env |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SEA vs OAK | 4 | 36.1 | 74.3 | $20.7K | 1.60× |
| MIL vs CIN | 4 | 36.0 | 72.4 | $19.9K | 0.80× |
| LAD vs MIA | 4 | 33.5 | 70.7 | $18.5K | 1.20× |
| NYY vs NYM | 4 | 32.3 | 68.9 | $18.1K | 1.10× |
| TB vs HOU | 4 | 32.1 | 65.8 | $19.6K | 1.00× |
MIL against CIN is essentially tied on projected points (36.0) with a slightly lower run environment (0.8), but the ceiling (72.4) and the combination of Jackson Chourio and Contreras gives you two reliable GPP pieces. The LAD stack's appeal is directly tied to the model's 9.8-run projection for that game — if the roof is open and the line holds at 7.5, the Dodgers' lineup against Ryan Gusto is one of the better spots on the card.
WEATHER & PARKS
Two parks stand out tonight from a run-environment standpoint.
| Game | Park | Wind | HR× | Runs× |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SEA @ OAK | OAK | 11 mph out to CF | 1.40× | 1.20× |
| SD @ SF | SF | 17 mph out to CF | 1.30× | 1.10× |
| LAD @ MIA | MIA | 6 mph out to CF | 1.20× | 1.10× |
| NYM @ NYY | NYY | 5 mph crossing to RF | 1.10× | 1.00× |
| KC @ BOS | BOS | 5 mph crossing to RF | 1.10× | 1.00× |
| PHI @ ATL | ATL | 13 mph crossing to LF | 0.80× | 1.00× |
Loan Depot Park (LAD @ MIA): listed as likely open tonight, 77°F, light 6 mph breeze out to center. HR factor of 1.2, runs factor of 1.1. The roof status is the variable to watch here — if it closes, that run environment changes. The "likely open" tag means confirmation before first pitch matters, especially given our model's 9.8-run projection.
The one park actively working against hitters is ATL for the PHI @ ATL game: 13 mph crossing wind with a negative outward component drops the HR factor to 0.8. Chris Sale pitching in a suppressed HR environment is worth noting if you're building him into a cash lineup.
THE BOTTOM LINE
The LAD @ MIA total is the sharpest signal of the day. A 2.3-run gap between the model (9.8) and the market (7.5), a 13-point edge, and a favorable park environment that's likely open — that's a rare level of disagreement. It's a lean, not a card play, but it's the number most worth tracking as the line moves toward first pitch.
The SEA stack is the DFS leverage play. The best run environment on the slate (1.6, HR factor 1.4), three ceiling hitters in the $5,000–$5,900 range, and a fourth-bat slot that can absorb Kirby if you want pitcher-stack correlation. Everything on this board is still projected, so confirm the lineups before you lock anything in — but the environment case for Seattle tonight is the strongest on the slate.
