CARD

Two Totals Cleared the Bar. The Card Didn't.

Wednesday's 15-game slate has a pair of totals the model likes by double digits, a NYY stack that projects 78 points of ceiling, and a dark betting card — all three of those are useful information.

THE READ

The most interesting number on Wednesday's slate isn't a moneyline — there are none that cleared our bar. It's the pair of totals in CHC @ MIL and HOU @ PHI, both posted at 8, both sitting roughly 2.5 to 2.7 runs below where the model lands. That's a meaningful gap. When the market posts 8 and the model says 10.6 or 10.7, the disagreement isn't noise.

Those two games are also the best DFS environments on the board. Milwaukee has its roof likely open, wind out to center, an HR factor of 1.3. Philadelphia is 84 degrees, 11 mph blowing out, HR factor 1.4. The offense-side stacks in both games carry genuine upside. The betting card is dark tonight — not because the edges aren't there in totals, but because nothing on the moneyline side cleared our minimum. The leans are tracked. The DFS work is where today's edge lives.

MODEL vs MARKET

No moneyline edges cleared the 5-percentage-point threshold tonight. The ml_edges list is empty, and that's the honest answer — we're not reaching for a side.

Two totals are a different story. Both cleared 10 points of edge, which is the bar we set.

  • CHC @ MIL — posted at 8, model total 10.6, over probability 60.6%, edge of +11.7 points. Lean: Over.
  • HOU @ PHI — posted at 8, model total 10.7, over probability 61.0%, edge of +10.9 points. Lean: Over.

To be precise about what these are: tracked edges, not official plays. The model disagrees with the market by enough to log both, and they'll stay on the board. No money is implied on either. A disagreement with the posted line, however wide, doesn't automatically make something a bet — that's what the card section is for.

THE CARD

The card is dark tonight.

No qualifying edge on the moneyline side reached the minimum threshold, and we don't stake totals on their own in today's process. The two over leans above are tracked on the board — they shaped where the DFS work went — but no units are going out on Wednesday's slate.

That's not a gap in the process. A dark card on a night where the totals lean but the sides don't cooperate is exactly what discipline looks like. The leans are logged. We'll see how Milwaukee and Philadelphia settle.

DFS CORE

All 170 hitters in today's pool are still projected — lineups have not yet been posted. Every player below should be treated as a projection, not a confirmed starter. That changes closer to first pitch.

The two groups worth building around are the NYY bats facing Tomoyuki Sugano and the LAD lineup against Rhett Lowder. On the value side, Austin Wells ($2,500) and Spencer Jones ($3,100) both project at 3.0 points per $1K — that's the best rate on the board — while Wells' ceiling of 16 is genuinely competitive for a catcher at that price. Jones carries a 17.8 ceiling at $3,100, which is the core of why the NYY stack is the optimizer's first call. On the LAD side, Freddie Freeman at $5,100 is the floor anchor for cash — a 2.8 floor is among the steadiest on the slate — and Shohei Ohtani at $6,600 is the GPP ceiling name, projecting 10.6 with a 20.6 ceiling against Lowder.

At the top of the pitching board, Yoshinobu Yamamoto projects 22.5 points with a 69.7% win probability at $11,000 — the clearest anchor of the slate. Jake Bennett at $8,300 is the value arm: 19.3 projected, 65.7% win probability, and the cheapest salary among the four featured starters, which matters when you're spending up on a NYY or LAD stack.

THE STACK

The optimizer's featured build is NYY 4 + PHI 3, projecting 98 points with a cash-game target of 107.1. That combination leans on the NYY stack's ceiling and PHI's favorable run environment.

Stacks to target — total projected points (Env = park × weather)

PHI vs HOU432.367.9$20.0K1.40×
ARI vs KC432.367.7$15.9K1.00×

The NYY stack is the lead call: four bats projecting 39.6 points, a ceiling of 77.9, and an environment factor of 1.1 at $19,000 in salary — which is the lightest spend among the top stacks. That's the leverage combination. You're getting the highest projected ceiling at the lowest price, which leaves room to pay up elsewhere. The LAD stack is the alternative, projecting 37.3 with a 74.2 ceiling, but at $19,600 and an environment factor of 1.2 — slightly more expensive for slightly less projected upside, though the park factor tips closer.

PHI is the natural second stack given the HOU @ PHI total lean: 32.3 projected, 67.9 ceiling, and the best environment factor in this group at 1.4. Citizen's Bank Park with wind out and an HR factor of 1.4 gives PHI hitters real upside in a GPP context. The NYY + PHI combination in the featured build reflects exactly that logic: stack the ceiling at low cost, then add the run-environment leverage from Philadelphia.

SHOWDOWN

Tonight's Showdown slate is MIN @ DET, locking at 1:10 PM ET on Wednesday.

The captain rule, once: the captain position scores and costs 1.5×. So a player's flex salary becomes 1.5× at captain, and any points they score are also multiplied by 1.5. The value comparison at captain isn't rate-per-dollar — it's ceiling per captain dollar, because the multiplication changes the math.

Captain

Colt Keith (DET, 1B) is the captain call. At his captain salary of $8,400, he projects 7.6 flex points — which becomes 11.4 at captain scoring — with a captain ceiling of 24 points. That works out to 1.9 points of ceiling per $1K at captain salary, which is the metric that matters here. For a Showdown slate where one player can separate a lineup, that ceiling-to-cost relationship is the case for him in the top spot.

Flex Values

  • Ben Malgeri (DET, OF) — $3,400 salary, 6.3 projected, 15.2 ceiling. At 1.9 points per $1K, he's the most efficient flex on the board.
  • Zebby Matthews (MIN, P) — $10,600 salary, 16.4 projected, 27.7 ceiling. The projection is the highest in the pool at 1.5 per $1K. If you're building around the DET captain and want upside on the MIN side, Matthews gives you both the floor and ceiling a starting pitcher can provide.

Trap

Kody Clemens (MIN, 2B) sits at $9,400 — the highest salary tier in the pool — and projects 7.3 points, which is 0.8 per $1K. The model is below that price. We're not claiming an ownership number because Showdown ownership isn't modeled, but the math is plain: you're paying top-tier salary for a projection that doesn't justify it. That's the definition of a trap in this format.

WEATHER & PARKS

Six games have notable weather conditions Wednesday. Two stand out as the most meaningful for lineup construction.

Weather that moves the run environment
GameParkWindHR×Runs×
CLE @ BALBAL12 mph out to CF1.40×1.20×
HOU @ PHIPHI11 mph out to CF1.40×1.20×
WSH @ SDSD8 mph crossing to RF1.30×1.20×

PIT @ CHWCHW9 mph out to CF1.30×1.10×
LAA @ BOSBOS13 mph crossing to LF1.20×1.10×

HOU @ PHI at Citizens Bank Park is the most impactful environment: 84.5 degrees, 11 mph blowing out to center, HR factor of 1.4 and runs factor of 1.2. That's a combination that adds real run-scoring probability beyond what the park already provides. It's one reason the model total climbs to 10.7 against a posted line of 8, and it's the environmental anchor for the PHI stack.

CLE @ BAL at Camden Yards is the other notable park: 88 degrees, 12 mph out to center, HR factor of 1.4. Camden already plays hitter-friendly, and those conditions push it further. The game isn't among the featured stacks in the brief, but the environment is worth noting if you're filling out a lineup with Baltimore bats — Colton Cowser ($2,400) is listed in the value section for a reason.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Two angles carry the most conviction on Wednesday.

  1. NYY stack at low salary, high ceiling. Four bats projecting a 77.9-point ceiling at $19,000 is the best ceiling-per-dollar combination among the featured stacks. Add the matching model over lean in CHC @ MIL and PHI for the secondary stack, and the build logic is clear. Jones and Wells as the value foundation, Chisholm and Rice as the GPP ceiling — that's the architecture.
  2. The CHC @ MIL and HOU @ PHI overs are the model's clearest signals tonight. Both posted at 8, both sitting more than 2.5 runs below the model total, both in favorable park and weather conditions. They're tracked leans, not card plays — but they shaped every DFS decision above, and they're the numbers most worth watching as the market moves into game time.
